In local news: One of two lawsuits filed after the 1978 murder of Amon Jamiel has been withdrawn from Superior Court. A $2.2 million suit, filed by a son of the deceased, Jonathan Jamiel, named Police Chief Samuel Correia and Sergeant Thomas Perrotto III as the plaintiffs. Mr. Jamiel withdrew the suit that accused the plaintiffs of subjecting Jonathan Jamiel to interrogation, which was "conducted with wanton, willful, malicious, deliberate and outrageous behavior... intentionally calculated to inflict emotional distress upon the defendant." A suit filed by the 18 permanent members of the Warren Police Department is still pending. That suit, for $18 million in damages, accuses Jonathan Jamiel and his brother, Mark Jamiel, of libel and slander because of statements they made to the newspaper after the murder, saying police were involved in a crime ring linked to their father's store, "The House of a Million Items." The store burned to the ground six days before Amon Jamiel was shot 11 times in a second-floor bathroom of the family home.
in breaking news, martha stewart is in deep shit and john ashcroft is in the hospital.
